Adelaide man receives bravery medal for saving woman during knife attack

A man who stepped in to save a woman who was stabbed in a knife attack has been awarded the Royal Humane Society of Australasia's Silver Medal for bravery. Christopher Lofdahl heard the woman's screams for help at about Mr Lofdahl told them to stop and realised the man was wielding a kitchen knife 30 centimetres long. Mr Lofdahl stood between the assailant and his victim despite the knife being turned towards his own neck.
The assailant eventually decided to leave but, as he was departing in his car, reversed towards Mr Lofdahl and the woman.
Mr Lofdahl picked the woman up and moved her quickly between two parked cars and the assailant left. The woman, who had stab wounds to her stomach, cuts on her hands and a large gash on the back of her head, survived the ordeal. Mr Lofdahl said it was an honour to receive the society's Silver Medal award, which was presented to him at a ceremony in Adelaide by Governor Hieu Van Le. Daniel Irvine, from Victor Harbor, was awarded a Certificate of Merit for trying to rescue a man from drowning at Depledge Beach in Mr Irvine retrieved the drowning man from a severe rip by motoring to him in his boat between waves.
